If you want to add sprinkles to cookies, cupcakes, breads, or cakes before baking, that is totally and completely ok. Add sprinkles to the tops of these baked goods right before they go into the oven. Adding sprinkles to “wet” batter is the only way to get them to stick without an additional “glue” like frosting.
Do you put sprinkles on brownies before or after baking?
Many desserts receive a sprinkling of “jimmies” after baking. However, unless the the baked goods are frosted, the sprinkles usually fall off. If you dust the top of brownie batter with sprinkles just before baking, the sprinkles slightly sink into the batter and remain in position after baking.
Lightly brush the unbaked cookies with a mixture of 2 egg yolks combined with 2 tablespoons of water. Let the egg wash dry slightly, then sprinkle with sanding sugar.
Can I melt sprinkles?
The sprinkles will slightly melt, but will not melt entirely as they will only be in the oven for five to ten minutes to complete the baking process.
For the most basic cookie decorating:
- Make a bowl of Decorator Frosting and apply it to cooled cookies with a pastry brush, blunt knife, or small spatula. Add your choice of sprinkles and call it a day.
- Dip the front of a cookie in thinned icing and put it on a cooling rack or plate. Add sprinkles and let dry.
The ideal thickness to roll out your sugar cookie dough is about 1/4″–that way, they’ll be tough enough to be handled and decorated, but thin enough to stay a little crunchy.
